Anger

If you feel angry about your paycheck, your mortgage, your children’s school, your taxes, your food prices, your electric bill, the cost of college tuition, the cost of gas or anything else – make sure you’re angry at the right people. These things are NOT the fault of the government.

The ememies are corporations that pay no taxes and violate labor, environmental and public safety laws as much as they can get away with – NOT unions or government. Do you want this flag? http://tinyurl.com/4eezodl  (Watch The Grapes of Wrath to remind yourself of what life in the US was like before we had labor laws and other important regulations that DO protect us when they are complied with.)

What kind of life do you want for yourself, your children and your grandchildren? Here are some comparisons of labor benefits, compensation and other workplace issues in the US as compared to other nations in the world: http://www.bls.gov/fls/charts.htm

In 1944, FDR proposed a radical economic bill of rights: http://j.mp/CDRXg  Watch: http://j.mp/9pGqq5 These were blocked by the GOP.

These things are the FAULT of people who allow corporations to get away with what they do. These things are the fault of people who vote for both Republican and Democrat lawmakers who protect the rights of corporations and do not protect the rights of people like you and me.

It is a normal human experience to feel anger at times. In fact those of us who study Emotional Intelligence know that ANGER is an adaptable emotion, meaning that we are capable of feeling anger for a reason and that our feelings of anger tell us something that may be important for our survival.

However, we also know from Emotional Intelligence that we humans have primal brain and we also have higher functioning intelligence and sometimes our primal brain confuses us. When humans are very confused about their emotions and what they believe to be true, they can reach a point of becoming mentally ill.

We can all relate to the experience of standing in a crowd, perhaps at a parade, and having someone step on  your foot by accident. Most of us will experience this as unpleasant and may look at or say something to the person who stepped on our foot. Most of us expect an apology or at the very least for it not to happen again. And most of us would take care to not step on another person’s foot.

However, there are some people walking around who have trouble regulating their emotions who might not view someone stepping on their foot once by accident as something they could understand as an accident and let go. There are people who will insist this was done on purpose. There are people who will turn around and punch the person who stepped on their foot by mistake. These people are mentally ill.

Now when someone steps on your foot once and says it’s a mistake but then continues to step on your foot regularly – something is wrong. In that situation, yes it makes sense to wonder what is wrong and whether that person has a mental illness or if they, in fact, are stepping on your foot on purpose.

The concept of stepping on someone’s foot is a metaphor I am using for anything that is offensive, harmful or otherwise bothersome to us.

There is a great deal of anger in US politics. Here is a link to a discussion about Glenn Beck’s anger: Thom Hartmann & Francis Fox Piven Discuss Glenn Beck http://dlvr.it/F5ckX

The point is that anger is a healthy emotion, WHEN IT IS BASED ON FACTS. When anger is not based on facts, it becomes a dangerous tool by those who create untrue propaganda.

When we think of the people who lived under Saddam Hussein, we ask ourselves, did they know their government was lying to them? Some did and some did not. The truth is that the American government has in the past lied to its citizens. Wikileaks proves this in some instances as well.

We know now that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were entered into based on lies. We know now that Dick Cheney engaged in bribery with foreign governments and that recently there was an arrest warrant out for him. We know now that George Bush approved the torture of prisoners of war despite that being against International Human Rights Law.

But “government” is not the problem. The problem is propaganda. The problem is having campaigning would-be politicians like Michele Bachmann telling her future constituents that she wants people “armed and dangerous”. The problem is Sharron Angle telling people that there will be “second amendment remedies”. The problem is Glenn Beck’s lies and anger. We know from Emotional Intelligence that emotions are contagious. Human beings sometimes engage in anger that is unhealthy because it is based on things that are not true.

AGAIN: If you feel angry about your paycheck, your mortgage, your children’s school, your taxes, your food prices, your electric bill, the cost of college tuition, the cost of gas or anything else – make sure you’re angry at the right people. These things are NOT the fault of the government.

These things are the FAULT of people who allow corporations to get away with what they do. These things are the fault of people who vote for both Republican and Democrat lawmakers who protect the rights of corporations and do not protect the rights of people like you and me.

Be angry at this! – Bills Republicans Have Blocked- http://www.addictinginfo.org/?p=284

Republicans (and yes some Democrats, but not most) have a very long history of protecting the rights of corporations over the rights of citizens. That is why they want tort reform. If someone is injured due to the negligence of a corporation and needs millions of dollars for their medical care, the GOP doesn’t want that  person to get the money they need for that; they want the taxpayer to shoulder that burden instead of the corporation that harmed the person.

Check your drinking water. Has there been fracking in your area? Ask. Are you drinking water that has cancer-causing chemicals in it? If so, you can thank Dick Cheney who pushed fracking legislation through congress and exempted those companies from having to abide by the Clean Water Act and other environmental protections. Make sure you see the film: GASLAND.

Check your food; are there cancer-causing chemicals in it? Make sure you see the film Food, Inc. You can thank your GOP lawmakers for allowing corporations to manufacture food despite it causing known carcinogens.

Your bills are expensive? Ask your elected officials if they protect the rights of employees in corporations and government.

Medical insurance is expensive or hard to get? The GOP does NOT want Americans to have world class healthcare that is affordable because their friends own the private insurance companies that are currently making a killing on expensive policies that refuse to cover hardworking Americans when they get really sick or have pre-existing conditions.

Make sure you aim your anger at the right people. Do NOT listen to Glenn Beck or anyone else on FOX. Fox has been proven to intentionally distort facts. Get your news from credible sources such as DemocracyNow! with Amy Goodman on radio and on MNN network on cable tv or from MSNBC or NPR.

You can also subscribe to credible news sources on the internet: Alternet, The Nation, Truthout, Media Matters, F.A.I.R., and FactCheck.org.

If you are angry, use your anger as fuel to help you get educated on who is really making your life difficult in the USA – It’s the GOP and all the companies that give them millions of dollars so they vote to protect their ability to keep making more and more money at your expense and to keep making sure you have no recourse when you are wronged.

Make sure you see the films, Hot Coffee , Idiocracy, Gasland, Food Inc., Who Killed the Electric Car, King Corn, Sicko, Capitalism: A Love Story and A People’s History of the United States.

Anger is a natural and healthy emotion WHEN IT IS BASED ON FACTS.  Before you get angry, ASK YOURSELF if your information is correct. ASK yourself is your info is from a credible source and is indeed true. ASK YOURSELF if it makes sense to be angry at who or what you feel angry at.

For example: if you’re angry about medical costs, don’t be angry at Obama; be angry at the GOP who has medical insurance companies paying them to watch their backs and NOT YOURS. If you’re angry about the deficit, don’t be angry at Obama – be angry at George W. Bush who got us into two illegal wars based on lies and who created the huge deficit we now have.

If you’re angry about unemployment, be angry at the very wealthy companies who are making record profits and who are not hiring because they don’t want Obama to get any credit for an improvement in unemployment numbers – Why? Because these corporations are paying the GOP to pass laws that benefit them and HURT workers.

If you’re angry about the BP oil spill, don’t be angry at Obama; be angry at BP for disregarding all labor and safety and environmental laws and at GWB and Cheney for putting Oil Company cronies in high positions in government regulatory jobs who let BP and other companies do whatever they wanted.

Get informed before you get angry. Then use your anger to sign petitions at Change.org and here every day. Being a citizen in a Democracy is NOT a spectator sport; we all have a duty to be informed and invovled on a daily basis; those who are not invovled and informed have no right to complain.
